The 12th MNRA Technical Commission met on June 29, 2018 in Barcelona at the invitation of the President of the CAC (Catalonia, Spain) who is the incoming vice-president of the network.

The CSA of France as the presidency of the network and its executive secretariat, the CNMC of Spain as the outgoing presidency, the AGCOM of Italy, the NCRTV of Greece, the ERC of Portugal, as founding members, the HACA of Morocco under the executive secretariat were represented.

In particular, the participants spoke about the activities of the network since the last plenary assembly:

  • The 28th of June workshop on the treatment of information on the Mediterranean refugees and migrants crisis organized by the CNMC in Barcelona as a follow-up to the Barcelona Declaration of 2016.
  • The Regulators’ Network Event on Freedom of Communication and Gender Equality held in New York on March 15, 2018, during the 62nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women of the United Nations. On this occasion, the MNRA, the French Speaking Media Regulators Network (REFRAM), the African Communication Regulation Authorities Network (ACRAN), the Ibero-Aamerican platform of Audiovisual Regulators (PRAI) and the Platform of West African Economic and Monetary Union Regulators (UEMOA) issued a joint declaration on gender equality in the media.
  • Ongoing work of the gender and media working group on the treatment of information on gender-based violence.

The participants also discussed the draft agenda for the meeting of the 20th Plenary Assembly in Barcelona on 22 and 23 November 2018.

The revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, the protection of users and minors in the new digital environment, the future of public service media will be at the center of the exchanges.
