ERC (Entitade Reguladora para a Comunicaçao Social)
Foundation, status and juridical basis
On 17 February 2007 the members of the Regulatory Board of ERC - Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (Regulatory Entity for the Media) have taken an oath before the President of the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic.
Through this act AACS - Alta Autoridade para a Comunicação Social (High Entity for the Media) was abolished.
ERC is an independent administrative body responsible for the application of Article 39 of the Portuguese Constitution on media regulation.
Law no. 53/2005 of 8 November has established the composition, powers, organization and operation of ERC, as well as the status and role of the members of the Regulatory Board.
