Foundation and Status

The Comision del Mercado de las Telecomunicaciones  was created in 1996 (Law 6/1996 on Telecommunications liberalization).


In spite of being body affiliated with the Ministry of Industry, the CMT has full
organizational, financial and functional autonomy in order to guarantee independency in
the exercise of its duties. (Article 48.13 LGT 32/2003: The Commission shall have its
own assets independently from State)
